Well, here is another no-brainer. Take music lessons! Or, get your kids to take music lessons. Beyond that, even if they don't stick to it, encourage them, threaten them, bribe them, sit with them. Keep them at it a while. Don't give up! It will reap HUGE benefits!
So, here is a link to an interview with a famous neuroscientist. He is discussing cyber-dementia. At about the 21st minute, he starts talking about the effect that music has on the brain. The entire interview is interesting, too. This guy has 6 kids. You can imagine that he has a vested interest in their well-being.
The man's name is Manfred Spitzer. He was also quoted as saying, "As far as science is concerned, the most important classes in school are Music, Gym, Drama, Art and Shop." This guy is a neuroscientist! He doesn't mention math, languages, science, social studies, etc. He is interested in healthy brains!
So, be prepared to hear more about this in the future, but most importantly, do music! It's brain food!
