I first heard about Grandma's Marathon when I was in Duluth for the first time. It was an auspicious event, being held on the same weekend as the Great Flood of 2012. I soon learned that it was not just a marathon for senior citizens, but was rather named for a famous Grandma in Duluth, who inspired a restaurant to bear her name.
Well, that marathon is once again fast approaching. The excitement is mounting, the weekend warriors are now getting more serious, training during the week as well. Luckily for all the runners, the weather has played along. When it is too hot, things do not go well for runners, and this weekend promises not to be too hot.
Last year, this piano store 'worked' as volunteers, playing music for the runners as they passed by, cheering them along. This time around, we have a conflict. I know, what could possibly conflict with GM?
But we will be with the hearty runners in spirit. I hope, for the multitudes who are planning to attend, that the weather is not too hot, not too cold, not too rainy, but, as Goldilocks said when she found the right porridge, "Just Right!"
